Abstract : Objective To explore the efficacy of epidermal growth factor (EGF) combined with compound polymyxin B in the treatment of wound scars in elderly patients with deep second-degree burns. Methods 120 elderly patients with deep second-degree burns were selected and randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 60 cases in each group. The control group was treated with compound polymyxin B, and the observation group was treated with compound polymyxin B combined with EGF. The wound healing time, healing rate, scar incidence rate, wound bacterial clearance rate and pain visual analogue scale (VAS) of the two groups of elderly patients were compared. Results The wound healing time of the observation group was significantly shorter than that of the control group, and the wound healing rates on 7, 14, and 21 days were all higher than those of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The scar incidence rate and scar scale score in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no statistical significance in the wound bacterial clearance rate between the 2 groups. The VAS pain scores of the observation group on days 7, 14, and 21 were all lower than those of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The combination of compound polymyxin B and EGF in the treatment of elderly patients with deep second-degree burns has the advantages of promoting wound healing, reducing the risk of wound infection, and reducing pain, and is suitable for clinical use.
