Abstract:Objective To observe the application effect of polymyxin B ointment in post-circumcision incision. Methods 80 cases of circumcision patients were randomly divided into observation group and control group, 40 cases each. The control group was bandaged with conventional petroleum jelly gauze, while the observation group was bandaged with polymyxin B ointment gauze. The two groups were compared with each other in terms of the time for local swelling of the incision to subside, the time for the incision to heal, the complications in the first week after the operation, and the pain scores in the first 24 hours after the operation. The incision swelling and healing time of the observation group were shorter than those of the control group, and the incidence of postoperative edema of the foreskin and the tethered ligament, adhesion of the gauze, and poor healing of the incision were lower than those of the control group (P<0.05 for all of them). The penile pain score during erection in the observation group was lower than that in the control group in the 24 h postoperative period (P<0.05), while there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups when comparing the penile pain score during non-erection (P>0.05). Conclusion: The use of polymyxin B ointment gauze dressing incision after circumcision can reduce the pain of postoperative erection, decrease the incidence of edema of the foreskin and tethered ligament, adhesion of gauze and poor healing of incision, and shorten the time for the swelling of the incision to subside and the time for the healing of the incision.
