Clinical efficacy of compound polymyxin B ointment on residual wounds of large-area burns

Abstract : Thirty-six patients with extensive burns from February 2014 to February 2015 were selected from our hospital, with a total of 90 wounds. They were divided into an observation group and a control group by digital extraction. There were 19 patients in the observation group with a total of 45 wounds, and 17 patients in the control group with a total of 45 wounds. The patients in the observation group were treated with Fonow ointment (Compound Polymyxin B Ointment, Triple Antibiotic Ointment), while the patients in the control group were treated with 1% sulfadiazine silver cream. The clinical treatment effect, bacterial clearance, pain score and adverse reactions of the two groups were analyzed after treatment. The total effective rate of the observation group was 93.33%, which was significantly higher than that of the control group (55.56%); the bacterial clearance rate of the wound in the observation group was 80.00%, which was significantly higher than that of the control group (25.00%); the pain score of the observation group after treatment (3.3±1.2) was significantly lower than that of the control group (4.5±1.5), and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05); no serious adverse reactions occurred in both groups. Fonow ointment (Compound Polymyxin B Ointment, Triple Antibiotic Ointment) has obvious therapeutic effect when applied to residual wounds after large-area burns. It can effectively remove infected bacteria and relieve pain, and is worthy of clinical application and promotion.
